Thursdays, July 13, 20, 27, and August 10, 2017 (4 classes)
6:00pm – 7:30pm
Fee: $90 + clay and tools
Instructor: Sara Bowen
Learn to make pots on the potter’s wheel! Slam your prepared clay onto the wheel, start the wheel spinning, and learn to let your hands form a bowl. After drying a bit, we’ll trim excess clay from the bottom of your pot. After drying a bit more, your pieces will go into the kiln and turn from dirt to stone. Learn the basics of glazing, and after a second firing, you’ll have a shiny, durable ceramic vessel, handmade by you–and the basic skills to create more pots!
This introductory class is for adults who have not worked on the potter’s wheel before, or who want more instruction at the beginner’s level. The class can be taken more than once to continue practicing your throwing technique. The fee for this class is for four sessions, each 1.5 hours long, meeting once per week. Clay can be purchased in our studio on the first day of class (12.5lb bag for $10). A $20 tool kit can be purchased in the studio on the first day of class, or bought locally/ordered online before the start of class. (This is a basic wheel-throwing tool kit, including wooden and metal tools and a throwing sponge.) We also ask that you bring an apron and a towel large enough to drape across your lap.
PLEASE NOTE: Online registration closes 2 days before the start day of the class.
