Fridays, April 21, 28, May, 5, and 19, 2017 (4 classes)
11:00am – 12:00pm
Instructor: Sara Bowen
Clay is a wonderful medium to capture and catalyze a child’s creativity, and the wheel is a fascinating tool that presents a unique way to let that clay and creativity work their magic. This four-week course covers the basic steps in wheel-throwing. We will spend three weeks throwing pots on the potter’s wheel, and one week glazing. Your child will learn how to hold their hands to let the clay form into a bowl as it spins on the wheel. On the last day of class, students will learn about the process and a bit of science behind the ceramic glazing process. Students who find they want to keep learning with the wheel are encouraged to take the class more than once to keep building on their skills, perhaps moving from low bowl shapes to taller vase shapes. This class meets for four 1-hour sessions once a week. The fee includes instruction, tools, clay, glazing, and firing. We ask that you bring an apron and a towel large enough to drape across your child’s lap.
