All Ages
Fee: $40
Instructor: Sara Bowen
Whether you’ve never touched clay before but want to try, or you haven’t thrown in a while and just need feel mud between your fingers, come spend a Saturday moving some clay around! This quick introduction to throwing on the potter’s wheel is a great chance to try something new, and maybe even ignite a new passion. In this single-session workshop, we’ll spend two hours working on the basics of wheel-throwing with no pressure: begin learning to center, pull walls, trim excess from the bottom, and more, then cut your piece off the bat and throw it back in the bag. One of the most valuable studio practices–and one of the most liberating–is to spend a session throwing away every pot you make. This allows you to push the clay and the wheel’s limits, or to just introduce yourself to the spinning muddy wheel without the pressure and expectations of a finished, glazed pot. So come unwind with the wheel and let your hands play.
The fee for this course covers 2 hours of instruction, tools, and clay. If you throw a piece you really love during our session, you have the option to come back to DesignByHart studio two weeks later, pay $5 and glaze your pot, then pick it up two weeks after that.
